It Seems No One Cares About The Nordstrom, Ivanka Trump Fiasco Anymore

According to a Bloomberg report, data showed that 30 percent of Americans who support the president were outraged with the decision two weeks after the fiasco began. Yet at the same time, the company's overall favorable rating stayed unchanged at 46 percent among all voters. This implies that other consumers picked up the void left behind by Republicans and Trump's supporters.

The decision to cut ties with Ivanka was purely a business one and was attributed to poor sales from Ivanka's line of clothes and accessories. Nevertheless, the politically sensitive nature of the decision dominated news headlines for a short period of time, including a tweet from the outraged president himself, but now the issue seems to have completely dropped off the radar.

In fact, the volume of social media posts that expressed a pro- or anti-Nordstrom view soared in early February and now stands at close to zero, according to data Bloomberg compiled from the social media analytics firm Crimson Hexagon.

There are a few takeaways from this fiasco, according to Morningstar's Bridget Weishaar. The analyst told Bloomberg that while this event represented "noise" in the near term, over the longer term it won't have any impact to whether Nordstrom has a sustainable competitive advantage.
