Netflix Has Oscar Potential In Sight - Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN)

What do you get when you combine the brilliance of Martin Scorsese, a $100 million budget and Robert De Niro? Needless to say, this is the recipe for an epic gangster movie, and moviegoers will gladly fork up the $10 to catch the film on the big screen.

But this won't be necessary, as the film is coming to Netflix, Inc. NFLX.

According to IndieWire, Scorsese' film titled "The Irishman" has been picked up by Netflix and will be released across all 93 million subscribers in 190 countries.

The movie highlights the life of Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran, who was a big-time hitman for the mob and will enter production later on this year.

This is even more relevant after Netflix's "Beasts of No Nation" was snubbed at last year's Oscars, so perhaps Netflix is looking to win — and win big with its Scorsese movie which also has Al Pacino attached to the project.

Netflix first made waves in 2013 when its "House of Cards" series became the first streaming-only TV series to take home a major award during the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards.

In total Netflix boasts 33 Emmy Awards, six Peabody Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and still looking for its first ever Oscar.
