The Dow rose 0.08 percent to 18,861.91, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 0.35 percent to 5,218.60. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 0.03 percent to 2,163.73.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Foreign Utilities: This industry slipped 3.5 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was CPFL Energia S.A. (ADR) CPL, which fell 3.6 percent. CPFL Energia shares have climbed 68.79 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 5.42 percent in the same period.
  • Semiconductor - Specialized: This industry declined 1.8 percent by 11:00 am with NVIDIA Corporation NVDA moving down 4 percent. IBM and NVIDIA reported collaboration on world’s fastest deep learning enterprise solution. Needham upgraded NVIDIA from Hold to Buy.
  • Housewares & Accessories: The industry dropped 1.8 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Newell Brands Inc NWL, which declined 3 percent.
  • Processing Systems & Products: This industry fell 1.4 percent by 11:00 am ET. Corelogic Inc CLGX shares dropped 4.4 percent in today's trading. Corelogic shares have increased 4.50 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 5.42 percent in the same period.
