Indian Markets Trading Lower; Pharma Stocks Decline


Indian stock markets traded lower on Friday. The S&P BSE Sensex dropped 35.30 points, or 0.13 percent at 27394.94. The 30-share index touched a low of 27,371.26 in the morning trade. The Nifty50 fell 0.22 percent to 8466.65, reaching a low of 8,465.20 in the morning trade.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index rose 0.05 percent, while the BSE S&P Smallcap Index declined 0.15 percent.

Pharma stocks traded lower, with Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Sun Pharma and Lupin among the major losers.

The Indian rupee rose by 3 paise at 66.72 versus the U.S. dollar.

US stock markets closed lower overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 0.16 percent, the S&P500 index dropping 0.44 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite slipping 0.92 percent.

US WTI crude futures on the NYMEX gained 0.29 percent to trade at $44.79 per barrel.

Top market movers among the BSE index are as follows

  • Shares of Raj Rayon Industries Ltd. rose 17 percent to 0.35 INR.
  • Shriram EPC Ltd. shares surged 16 percent to 36.20 INR.
  • Dhunseri Investments Ltd. rose about 14 percent to 209.55 INR.
  • Lloyds Steels Industries Ltd. shares gained around 14 percent to 1.60 INR.

 

  • Birla Cotsyn (India) Ltd. dropped around 50 percent to 0.05 INR.
  • MPS Infotecnics Ltd. fell around 33 percent to 0.10 INR.
  • Rasoya Proteins Ltd. slipped 25 percent to 0.15 INR.
  • Pan India Corporation Ltd. shares declined 14 percent to 0.30 INR.
