Target Now Has More Solar Panels Than Any Other Corporation

Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) is now the largest corporate installer of solar power in the United States, according to Electrek.

Target now boasts 147MW of installed solar power across 300 stores, which exceeds Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT)'s solar installed base of 130MW while Ikea, the popular furniture, appliances and home accessories seller, has installed solar power modules across 90 percent of its retail locations.

Electrek, citing data from the Solar Energy Institute of America (SEIA), reported that over 1,000MW of solar power has been installed in nearly 2,000 retail locations and stores across the United States.

Electrek further noted that financial reasoning often tops the list of why corporate America is focusing on green energy. In fact, environmental reasoning is more often than not even part of the sales conversation between companies and solar power providers.

The three main factors companies consider prior to installing solar panels include access to good sunlight, non-solar electricity rates and state level renewable mandates.

Despite having less sunlight than Southern California, the northeast United States is a major hub for commercial solar installations given expensive electricity rates and aggressive clean energy pushes at the state level.

Finally, Electrek stated that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) remains a leader in its commitment toward renewable energy is aiming for 4,000MW of solar power to be installed across its properties across the world.
