  • Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc (NASDAQ: HMNY) shares surged 109.4 percent to $11.62. Helios and Matheson Analytics shares have jumped 165.97 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 6.06 percent in the same period.
  • Concordia International Corp (NASDAQ: CXRX) shares gained 36 percent to $5.40. Concordia shares have dropped 82.83 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 6.06 percent in the same period.
  • Alkermes Plc (NASDAQ: ALKS) shares climbed 29.5 percent to $56.33 after the company announced positive topline results from its late-stage clinical study of ALKS 5461 for the treatment of depression.
  • Reynolds American, Inc. (NYSE: RAI) jumped 15.8 percent to $54.62. British American Tobacco PLC (ADR) (NYSE: BTI) made a $47 billion takeover offer for the roughly 58 percent of Reynolds American that it doesn’t already own — a move that would cement the two cigarette giants’ longstanding trans-Atlantic ties and create the world’s largest listed tobacco company by revenue and market value. BAT owns 42.2 percent of Reynolds, and is offering cash and BAT stock worth $56.50 a share for the rest of the company.
  • Cerecor Inc (NASDAQ: CERC) shares gained 15.8 percent to $3.88 in sympathy to Alkermes depression drug data.
  • Knoll Inc (NYSE: KNL) rose 14.1 percent to $23.58 after the company posted upbeat results for the third quarter.
  • Everyday Health Inc (NYSE: EVDY) shares surged 11.4 percent to $10.48 after the company disclosed that it struck a definitive deal with Ziff Davis, LLC, which comprises J2 Global Inc (NASDAQ: JCOM), enabling the latter to buy it for $10.50 a share in cash. This would translate in an enterprise value of approximately $465 million.
  • OpGen Inc (NASDAQ: OPGN) rose 11 percent to $1.51. OpGen is expected to report Q3 financial results on October 24, 2016.
  • Celestica Inc (NYSE: CLS) climbed 9.4 percent to $11.42 after the company posted better-than-expected quarterly earnings.
  • Time Warner Inc (NYSE: TWX) shares gained 8.7 percent to $90.24. The Wall Street Journal reported that AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is in advanced talks to acquire Time Warner.
  • Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: PYPL) shares surged 7.5 percent to $43.10. Paypal reported in-line earnings for its third quarter, while revenue beat analysts’ estimates.
  • SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ: SIVB) shares gained 7 percent to $125.00. SVB Financial posted strong Q3 results.
  • Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) gained 4.1 percent to $59.62 as the company reported stronger-than-expected results for its first quarter on Thursday.
  • KLA-Tencor Corp (NASDAQ: KLAC) shares gained 2.8 percent to $73.97 after the company posted upbeat Q1 results.
  • McDonald's Corporation (NASDAQ: MCD) rose 2.5 percent to $113.36 as the company reported better-than-expected results for its third quarter.
