The Dow fell 0.68 percent to 18,205.19, while the NASDAQ composite index slipped 0.79 percent to 5,286.62. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index declined 0.74 percent to 2,147.65.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Processing Systems & Products: This industry slipped 2.7 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Msci Inc MSCI, which fell 4 percent. Evercore ISI Group downgraded MSCI from Hold to Sell.
  • Computer Peripherals: This industry declined 2.3 percent by 11:00 am with Electronics For Imaging, Inc. EFII moving down 2.3 percent. Electronics For Imaging is expected to report Q3 earnings results on October 26, 2016.
  • Technical & System Software: This industry fell 1.8 percent by 11:00 am ET. Nutanix Inc NTNX shares dropped 4.2 percent in today's trading.
  • Research Services: The industry dropped 1.7 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was CareDx Inc CDNA, which declined 3.5 percent.
