The Dow rose 0.13 percent to 18,118.39, while the NASDAQ composite index climbed 0.32 percent to 5,274.04. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.07 percent to 2,147.66.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Information & Delivery Services: This industry slipped 0.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was FactSet Research Systems Inc. FDS, which fell 6 percent. FactSet reported weaker-than-expected results for the fourth quarter.
  • Drug Manufacturers - Other: This industry declined 0.85 percent by 11:00 am with Summit Therapeutics PLC (ADR) SMMT moving down 6.4 percent. Summit disclosed that it has received Rare Pediatric Disease designation from the FDA for ezutromid in the treatment of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
  • Silver: This industry fell 0.8 percent by 11:00 am ET. Hecla Mining Company HL shares dropped 4.3 percent in today's trading. Hecla Mining shares have jumped 201.55 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 14.05 percent in the same period.
  • Oil & Gas Pipelines: The industry dropped 0.7 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Plains GP Holdings LP PAGP, which declined 3.7 percent.
