McDonald's In Talks To Sell Point Of Sale System

McDonald's Corporation (NYSE: MCD) is negotiating a transaction to sell its point of sale system, people familiar with the matter told Benzinga. Suitors involved include SUPERVALU Inc. (NYSE: SVU) and Deloitte.

The source suggested the McDonald's PoS sale discussions stem from ongoing talks with National Labor Relations Board in addressing franchisee-to-franchisor labor risks. McDonald's offboarding the PoS system is a center focus in alleviating that concern, the source said.

McDonald's could not be reached for comment at time of publication.

The point of sale is the time and place where a retail transaction is completed. At the point of sale, the merchant calculates the amount owed by the customer and indicate the amount, and may prepare an invoice for the customer (which may be a cash register printout), and indicate the options for the customer to make payment. It's also the point at which a customer makes a payment to the merchant in exchange for goods or after provision of a service.

After receiving payment, the merchant may issue a receipt for the transaction, which is usually printed, but is increasingly being dispensed with or sent electronically.

Shares of McDonald's traded recently at $115.15; the stock is down about 2.5 percent year-to-date.
