Before Summer Ends, Score An Extra Crispy Tan With KFC's New Chicken-Scented Sunscreen

Yum! Brands, Inc.YUM
expanded its business into the healthcare and wellness space — sort of.

Filed in the "it can't really be true" category, someone in the marketing department at Yum Brands, parent company of Kentucky Fried Chicken, felt a good business venture is selling sunscreen spray that smells like its signature bucket of chicken.

According to Fortune, Yum Brands will sell an SPF 30 sunscreen lotion called "Extra Crispy Sunscreen." Once again, it is supposed to smell just like fried chicken.

"We've had a lot of fun with our Extra Crispy Colonel campaign this summer and the sunscreen idea seemed like a natural fit," Fortune quoted a KFC spokesperson as saying. "Our chicken is hand breaded and freshly prepared in our kitchens all day every day, which makes the smell in our restaurants unparalleled. The Extra Crispy Sunscreen is a fun way to leverage that with our fans."

And now the sad part. The company produced only 3,000 bottles of the sunscreen, which were given away for free on its website. As of Tuesday morning, there were no supplies left, and the company appears to have no plans to produce a new batch or begin selling its product.

Sorry for getting your hopes up, KFC chicken lovers.
