Samsung Acquires Maker Of Android-Ovens

Samsung Electronics announced it plans on fully acquiring Dacor, a U.S.-based manufacturer of high-end appliances.

According to Android Police, Dacor is a maker of "crazy Android-powered ovens and other expensive appliances."

For example, the Dacor Discovery iQ 30" Double Wall Ovens features a built-in electronic control panel powered by Google's intuitive Android OS. The 7-inch multi-touch screen has an integrated WiFi connectivity, as well as wireless connection for Bluetooth devices.

Samsung itself is a seller of high-end appliances but the purchase of Dacor could signify its intentions to expand the business segment even further.

Dacor is also the only manufacturer that has been recommended by the prestigious Master Chefs of Le Cordon Bleu, the Paris-based culinary school.

Dacor will become a 100 percent owned unit of Samsung Electronics America when the deal is finalized.

The Wall Street Journal, citing Lloyd Greif - the investment banker who worked on the deal - said that Samsung was a good fit as can bring the brand to a larger international market.

WSJ also noted that last year, Samsung's consumer electronics segment contributed almost 25 percent of its total sales but just 4.7 percent of the total operating profit.
