The Dow rose 0.09 percent to 18,549.56, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 0.17 percent to 5,216.48. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 0.03 percent to 2,181.19.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Drug Related Products: This industry slipped 9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Perrigo Company plc PRGO, which fell 11 percent. Perrigo reported downbeat quarterly earnings and lowered its full-year outlook.
  • Research Services: This industry declined 4.7 percent by 11:00 am with Myriad Genetics, Inc. MYGN moving down 31 percent. Myriad Genetics posted weaker-than-expected Q4 results and issued a downbeat guidance.
  • Internet Service Providers This industry fell 1.8 percent by 11:00 am ET. Sify Technologies Limited (ADR) SIFY shares dropped 1.7 percent in today's trading. Sify shares have declined 12.52 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 3.69 percent in the same period.
  • Semiconductor - Specialized: The industry dropped 1.5 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was SunPower Corporation SPWR, which declined 30 percent. SunPower posted a loss for its second quarter and issued a weak revenue forecast. Management expected a workforce reduction of about 15 percent totaling about 1,200 employees in the future and restructuring charges totaling $30-$45 million.
