The Dow fell 0.08 percent to 18,580.96, while the NASDAQ composite index climbed 0.13 percent to 5,096.59. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.02 percent to 2,173.52.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Regional Airlines: This industry slipped 4 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Southwest Airlines Co LUV, which fell 8.7 percent. Southwest reported weaker-than-expected Q2 earnings and announced plans to buyback $250 million in common stock.
  • Small Tools & Accessories: This industry declined 1.4 percent by 11:00 am with Snap-on Incorporated SNA moving down 3.4 percent. Snap-on posted upbeat quarterly earnings, but the company missed analysts’ sales estimates.
  • Drug Related Products: This industry fell 1.3 percent by 11:00 am ET. Perrigo Company plc PRGO shares dropped 1.6 percent in today's trading. Perrigo shares have dropped 49.30 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 2.54 percent in the same period.
  • Semiconductor - Broad Line: The industry dropped 0.8 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. MLNX, which declined 5 percent. Mellanox reported Q2 earnings of $0.87 per share on revenue of $214.8 million.
