Ian Rosen Named New StockTwits CEO

StockTwits, the popular social media platform that brings together investors, traders and entrepreneurs to share investment ideas, named a new CEO Wednesday.

Ian Rosen, co-founder of Even Financial and a former general manager at MarketWatch, will replace StockTwits' founder Howard Lindzon as CEO.

Lindzon co-founded StockTwits in 2008, which was named as one of the best 50 websites by Time magazine in 2010 and one of the top 10 most innovative companies in finance in 2012 by FastCompany.

StockTwits is also credited with inventing the "cashtag" that Twitter's use to search for a stock symbol, such as "$AAPL" or "$FB."

According to Tech Crunch, StockTwits' management team felt that Rosen's media background and business savvy would help boost the social media's appeal, especially to advertisers.

Rosen wants to "expand the audience wider and deeper and add some premium features for the most engaged users."

StockTwits boasts 1.5 million monthly active users, 60 percent of whom are under the age of 44.

"The vision of the business is being able to take action based on the signal that you're getting," Tech Crunch quoted Tony Conrad, a partner at True Ventures and investor in StockTwits as saying. "There is deep intelligence in the stream, which can be better packaged and distributed to broader audiences, both on and off platform."
