Despite Fiat Chrysler's Recall There Have Been 266 Crashes And 68 Injuries

Fiat Chrysler
has recently been under fire for its massive recall on its Jeep Grand Cherokee model that has gearshift problems. A government investigation found a total of 266 crashes in which 68 people were injured CNBC reported. In addition to the crashes there were a total of 686 consumer complaints about the shifters. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration posted these results on its website on Tuesday. The company also seems to have violated basic design guidelines for vehicle controls with the shifters according to UNHTSA. Anto Yelchin, 27 died after being pinned by his Grand Cherokee against a mailbox pillar. Fiat Chrysler said it started providing its dealers with a software update before Yelchin died. Letters were mailed out to consumers on May 14,Yelchin might have received a letter warning him about the problem, with instructions to make sure their vehicles were in park and to use the parking break before exiting the vehicle. FCA has started sending out letters to consumers to schedule an appointment with their dealers to update the software in their vehicles what will automatically shift the car into park if the driver's door opens while the engine is running. The recall covers the 2014 Grand Cherokee as well as the 2012-14 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 .
