HP Recalls 41,000 Batteries Due To Fire Risk
HP Inc (NYSE: HPQ) announced a recall of over 41,000 notebook batteries due to a fire safety risk, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The computer batteries were from both HP and Compaq notebooks models sold from March 2013 to August 2015. The batteries in question were sold at Best Buy Co Inc. (NYSE: BBY), Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT), Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ: COST) and online by HP. Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the batteries that were made in China, remove them and contact HP for a free replacement.
So far there have been at least seven reports of battery packs "overheating, melting, and charring" and four reports of property damage.
