Social Media: Where Are Ad Bucks Spent?

Advertising in social media has not only become very popular, but also necessary in today’s world. In fact, those that seek to get by without this tool tend get left behind. As readers might suppose, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ: FB) is the undisputed leader in this market. However, the runner-ups might surprise.

In a recent article, Statista data journalist Felix Richter tried to answer the question, “Which Social Networks Do Advertisers Rely On?”

To complete this task, the writer resorted to data from Social Fresh, Firebrand Group and Simply Measured. Based on a poll conducted among 454 digital marketers working in social media in eight different countries, Richter assured that Facebook was the most popular among digital marketers — with popularity measured as the percentage of marketers who publicize products or services in the site at least once a month, followed by Twitter Inc (NYSE: TWTR), Facebook’s Instagram and LinkedIn Corp (NYSE: LNKD). Below is the list of the six most popular social networks among digital marketers.

  • Facebook: 61 percent
  • Twitter: 32 percent
  • Instagram: 30 percent
  • LinkedIn: 23 percent
  • Pinterest: 8 percent
  • Snapchat: 4 percent

While Instagram continues to trail Twitter, Social Fresh’s data showed a rapid increase in the former’s popularity among marketers, suggesting that it could soon displace Twitter to the third place in this list.
