AT&T Gets $74.6 Million Worth Contract From The American Defense

AT&T Inc. T was awarded the sole contract that's worth about $74.6 million over a five-year period by the Defense Information Systems Agency. According to the company, the value of the contract was based on the exercise of all the options.

AT&T said it would offer highly secured telecom services, which would support the senior leadership communications between selected Department of Defense aircraft and ground stations across the continental U.S., as well as around the world.

The company's President for Global Business – Public Sector Solution, Kay Kapoor, commented, "We're proud to provide communications services to help defend our country. When the mission is vital and national security is at stake, our nation's leaders' count on the AT&T network."

The company indicated it would provide long-haul telecommunications and related transmission circuits. AT&T said that these support the government's restricted-use, ultra-high frequency communications platform. The company added that the services were highly reliable and resilient to keep continuous communications under duress.

Shares of the company traded 0.23 percent down on Wednesday.
