Amazon To Unveil A New Pickup Location Near University Of Connecticut

Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN disclosed a new fully staffed pickup location near the University of Connecticut campus would soon be launched. According to the company, the Amazon pickup location, the first in Connecticut, provides the UConn community a convenient location to pick up and return Amazon orders. That included virtually everything that one needs for life on campus, be it day-today essentials or technology.

Amazon indicated it would be opened in Summer 2016 with nearly 4,000-square-foot space and located at 40 Wilbur Cross Way in Storrs Center, centrally located near the university. The online retailer believes it could be easily accessible to students, as well as the greater Storrs community. Moreover, Amazon Student and Prime members would get Free One-Day Pickup on millions of items.

Amazon Student Programs Direct, Ripley MacDonald, said "We are excited to bring an Amazon pickup location to the UConn and greater Storrs community. Whether students are ordering college essentials, electronics or snacks, Amazon will provide a convenient and secure spot for them to pick up their stuff at hours that work with their schedules."

The online retailer said it would launch more locations in the current year. That included University of Pennsylvania, University of California, Davis, The University of Texas at Austin, The Georgia Institute of Technology and California State University, Long Beach, as well as in the college community of University of Akron.

The stock traded 2.79 percent higher on Thursday.
