Cadbury Not Having A Very Happy Easter

Those delicious Cadbury eggs you eat have become an Easter tradition. They've also become a headache for the company and its social media team.

The @CadburyUK profile has been busy responding to backlash against the company removing "Easter" from the front of its candies packaging.

"[T]he response generated mockery from many and calls for the company to reinstate the word Easter or face a boycott next year," The Telegraph noted. "But Cadbury is not alone in selling eggs with no overt mention of Easter on the packaging. Many Mars and Nestlé branded chocolate eggs on sale in the UK have a similar format but some Galaxy eggs do carry the slogan “Easter pleasure” on the front."

The Telegraph earlier this week reported the removal -- or rather, placement change -- of the Easter branding. The Cadbury Twitter Inc TWTR account has been switching between a couple of responses, such as, "Hi, the word 'Easter' is still mentioned on the back of our eggs. As a seasonal treat they'll always be linked with Easter."

Cadbury is a subsidiary of Mondelez International Inc MDLZ, for which a spokesperson said; "We have no policy to drop the word Easter from our eggs nor our marketing. Easter is still stated on our Easter Eggs on the back of pack. Most of our Easter Eggs don’t say ‘Easter’ or ‘Egg’ on the front because it is very obvious through the packaging that it is an Easter Egg, re-emphasised by their seasonal availability.”

According to the National Retail Federation's annual study, consumer spending during the 2016 Easter season is expected to reach a 13-year high, with American families spending an estimated $17.3 billion, $2.4 billion of which is slotted towards candy.
