Vine Users Want To Get Paid By Twitter

Earlier this week, BuzzFeed reported that top Vine content creators are asking for some kind of revenue-sharing arrangement. Until now, Vine’s parent company, Twitter Inc TWTR, has not paid content creators, even though they have attracted millions to their pages.

According to BuzzFeed, Vine and Twitter executives met with some of the platform’s top users in late 2015 and discussed ways to compensate content creators.

It should be noted that content creators count on a few alternative ways to make money from their videos. For instance, Twitter’s Open Amplify allows them to introduce pre-roll advertisements in their videos and get a part of the revenue generated, while the Niche division helps them connect with brands willing to pay for sponsored content.

But this is not enough, some Vine users have declared. YouTube and Facebook Inc FB are already paying its top users for their publications. So why is Twitter not doing the same?

“There’s no war or bad blood, the creators just want to be treated fairly,” one of Vine’s top creators told BuzzFeed. “Three and a half years is a long time to have us posting on your platform for free… We’ve had a lot of our top creators find a lot of successes on YouTube, a lot of success on Facebook right now.”

Twitter has declined to comment on the issue.
