Is Apple Fixing Its Earbuds?

Finally, Apple Inc. AAPL may be bidding adieu to tangled earbuds (Apple calls them "EarPods") with the launch of iPhone 7 later this year, as it is widely speculated that Apple is going to remove the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack from its iPhone lineup. Instead of it, Apple will use the existing Lightning charge port as a headphone jack, according to a report from TechInsider.

The report said rather than simply swapping the existing earbuds for a new pair that could plug into Lightning ports, it looks like Apple may be completely changing the way its headphones work – and permanently fixing the issue of tangled earbud wires.

The new earbuds reportedly would break away just below the neck. The difference here, though, is that the music wouldn't stop. Instead of pausing your music/podcast/etc., the audio would continue playing wirelessly to the headphones (via Bluetooth or another wireless communication method).

Apple needs to innovate faster, as the smartphone sales are slowing and would be tough to return to its earlier levels of double-digit growth.

Shares of Apple broke the psychological $100 barrier and were up 4 percent to trade at $100.53 at Tuesday's close. In pre-market trading Wednesday, the issue was up an additional 0.09 percent.
