Early 'Batman V. Superman' Projections Give Time Warner Super Hopes

It's no secret Time Warner Inc TWX's Warner Bros. has had up and down years as of late.

Investors have been (mostly) patiently waiting for this year when Warner debuts its version of a connected film universe with its DC superheroes. The first of those films, "Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice" is set to debut next month and early projections are positive.

A lot of pressure is on the studio for this film to do well, and many detractors are already sharpening their knives trying to pick holes in its potential profitability. However, it has been reported that early tracking has the film an opening in the $100 million to $140 million neighborhood.

While that is a big range, it is just what investors needed to see; when official tracking hits in another few weeks, their fears could begin to subside. The film was moved to the spring to avoid competition with Marvel's cinematic universe and eventually landed on March 25 to take advantage of the Good Friday/Easter weekend.

Last year, "Furious 8" drove off with a record weekend during this same holiday period, and with many schools and colleges on spring break around the opening this film is being watched closely. Currently, the record for highest opening by a March release is $152.5 million, which was set by the original "The Hunger Games." Disney's live-action "Alice In Wonderland" is in second with $116.1 million.
