According to the New York Post, Comcast Corporation CMCSA has "started ripping up" agreements with cable networks by bundling popular channels onto digital tiers and out of basic packages.

The New York Post noted that Spike, CMT and Pop are some of the channels that have moved to digital tiers. As such, customers may need to fork over an additional $9.99, or more, to access these channels.

The report noted that Comcast claims that by doing so it is keeping down costs for its customers. However, Viacom, Inc. VIAB, the parent company of CMT, is "irked" by the move.

"This action is in direct violation of our agreement and will increase costs for customers who will now have to pay more for networks that were previously included in less expensive packages," Viacom told the New York Post in a statement.
