Shares of both Ctrip.com International, Ltd. (ADR)
CTRP
and Qunar Cayman Islands Ltd
QUNR
have seen some after-hours volatility Tuesday amid a post-market
press release
from the former. Ctrip, a leading provider of travel services in China, reported a deal to make certain investments via a limited partnership capital contribution in several non-US investment entities. Totaling an aggregate investment of about $1.3 billion in cash and issuance of some 5.4 million shares, the investment news has a big implication for Qunar. The investment entities "will acquire a significant minority stake of Qunar Cayman Islands Limited, or Qunar, from Qunar's shareholders through privately negotiated transactions, using cash and/or Ctrip's ordinary shares as purchase consideration," according to the release. While shares of Ctrip have traded up about 0.9 percent to around $44.97, Qunar shares are getting much more of a boost, up more than 8 percent to around $41.29.
