Twitter Inc TWTR announced on Wednesday a new partnership with Lookup, a chat app that brings together Twitter's Indian-based users with retailers.

The partnership allows Twitter's users in India to connect with local businesses and eliminate web browsing activities. Twitter users in Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune can Tweet or send a Direct Message to a business that was given a new Lookup account to enquire about their goods and services, and book appointments.

Tech Crunch commented on Twitter's announcement, noting that it the social media platform transforms into a "personal assistant service." The publication also reached out to Lookup's founder and CEO Deepak Ravindran who commented that his company's appeal as a concierge service could boost Twitter's popularity in the large Indian market.

Shares of Twitter were trading lower by 0.4 percent at $22.47 mid-Wednesday afternoon.
