The Dow rose 0.38 percent to 17,592.15, while the NASDAQ composite index climbed 0.32 percent to 5,011.29. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index surged 0.39 percent to 2,051.35.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

General Entertainment: This industry declined 0.8 percent by 11:00 am with Qunar Cayman Islands Ltd (NASDAQ: QUNR) moving down 3 percent. Qunar Cayman Islands' trailing-twelve-month profit margin is -86.17 percent.

Diversified Investments: The industry dropped 0.7 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Saratoga Investment Corp (NYSE: SAR), which declined 1.7 percent. Saratoga Investment is expected to report its FQ3 financial results on January 13, 2016.

Regional - Southwest Banks: This industry tumbled 0.6 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Mackinac Financial Corporation (NASDAQ: MFNC), which fell 1.6 percent. Mackinac Financial shares have surged 1.11 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 1.52 percent in the same period.

Metal Fabrication: This industry fell 0.5 percent by 11:00 am ET. Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE: CRS) shares dropped 3.6 percent in today's trading.
