The Dow rose 0.35 percent to 17,553.63, while the NASDAQ composite index climbed 0.34 percent to 5,039.72. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.36 percent to 2,054.92.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

Cleaning Products: This industry declined 0.7 percent by 11:00 am with Swisher Hygiene Inc (NASDAQ: SWSH) moving down 3.9 percent. Swisher Hygiene shares have declined 40.59 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 0.60 percent in the same period.

Water Utilities: The industry dropped 0.65 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was American States Water Co (NYSE: AWR), which declined 1.1 percent. American States Water's PEG ratio is 6.50.

Publishing - Newspapers: This industry tumbled 0.5 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was McClatchy Co (NYSE: MNI), which fell 1.5 percent. McClatchy's trailing-twelve-month ROE is -2.30 percent.

Building Materials Wholesale: This industry fell 0.4 percent by 11:00 am ET. Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (NYSE: LPX) shares dropped 0.5 percent in today's trading.
