The Dow rose 0.18 percent to 17,172.21, while the NASDAQ composite index fell 0.01 percent to 4,869.47. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.11 percent to 2,025.99.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

Synthetics: This industry declined 2.7 percent by 12:00 pm with Lightbridge Corp (NASDAQ: LTBR) moving down 1.9 percent. Lightbridge shares have dropped 46.07 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 7.27 percent in the same period.

Computer Peripherals: The industry dropped 2.3 percent by 12:00 pm. The worst performer in this industry was Qumu Corp (NASDAQ: QUMU), which declined 10.5 percent. Qumu's PEG ratio is -0.11.

Technical Services: This industry tumbled 2.1 percent by 12:00 pm. The worst stock within the industry was Ameresco Inc (NYSE: AMRC), which fell 4.8 percent. Ameresco's trailing-twelve-month ROE is 4.94 percent.

Industrial Equipment & Components: This industry fell 1.9 percent by 12:00 pm ET. CIRCOR International, Inc. (NYSE: CIR) shares dropped 4.2 percent in today's trading. CIRCOR International is projected to announce Q3 financial results on November 9.
