acquired Israeli-based flash memory design firm Anobit. Two years later, the company acquired acquired Israeli-based 3D Sensor PrimeSense. On Tuesday, Apple acquired its third Israeli company – LinX. LinX develops and markets miniature cameras for tablets and smartphones and uses sensors to capture multiple images at the same time. The company says its cameras can gauge depth and create three-dimensional image maps, which provides a super quality picture in low light along with faster exposure at standard indoor conditions. Patently Apple, noted that LinX cameras are significantly smaller than any camera on the market today. The price tag on the deal is estimated to be around $20 million and may give Apple another edge in the ultra-competitive tablet and smartphone market as users continue demanding cutting edge technology. "Adding a 3D camera to Android smartphones was going to be the next big thing in photography but the technology that they were going to use was from PrimeSense," Patently Apple wrote. "When Apple acquired the Israeli company, Google's Project Tango disappeared." "With Apple now in control of some or most of the key technology behind 3D cameras, we're likely to see Apple enter this arena," the blog added. The competitive landscape in which Apple is competing against Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, Microsoft Corporation MSFT and Hewlett-Packard Company HPQ among others is just heating up. Shares of Apple were relatively quite during Wednesday's pre-market session, trading at $126.76, up 0.36 percent.
