What Is Alibaba's Jack Ma Doing In Paris?

Shares of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd BABA are up on Thursday, and Jack Ma, founder and Executive Chairman, continues to meet with French leaders.

But, what is he doing in Paris?

The visit is contextualized in a wider European tour, which has been drawing plenty of media attention.

On March 18, Ma met with French President Francois Hollande at the Elysee Palace.

According to Chinese site CRI, “they discussed ways to enhance the cooperation between French enterprises and the Alibaba Group. Hollande and Ma talked about new trends in eCommerce and how to boost innovation among small and medium-sized enterprises etc.

"President Hollande said he hopes to further expand bilateral cooperation between China and France, and to build a stable supply chain in Europe for the China's e-commerce giant. Ma stressed that Alibaba was focusing on offering top quality products to consumers across the world," it added.

Ma also met with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.

According to several French media outlets, Alibaba will open an “embassy” in France in October.

It is expected to help French companies better export their products to China.
