After being banned from providing its taxi service throughout Spain in December, Uber has decided to maintain its presence in the country by rolling out a food delivery service in Barcelona.

Spanish officials have called on telecommunications companies to block access to Uber’s website and smartphone application in an effort to stop people from using the service, but Uber is planning to use the ban as an opportunity to test its food delivery option internationally.

UberEats

At the moment, Uber drivers already deliver meals under the name UberFresh in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, but beginning this year drivers in Barcelona will be equipped to deliver meals under the name UberEats.

Drivers will stock their cars with €10 prepared meals which can be delivered to a customer’s door within 10 minutes for a €2.50 delivery fee.

Uber Continues To Grow Despite Roadblocks

Uber’s Barcelona operations underscore the company’s dedication to becoming a full service logistics company.

Despite safety concerns in several cities across the world, Uber has continued to expand to become one of the most well-known taxi services in the world.

Investors have estimated the company’s value at around $41 billion, and it is only expected to continue growing.

New Offerings

Uber is set on becoming more than just a taxi service, the company has also been working to expand into new spaces other than just food delivery.

In Washington, D.C., residents can have everyday items delivered to their door by Uber drivers through a service called Corner Store.

The company is also piloting a bike messenger service in New York City called UberRush and a moving service called Bellhops in Nashville.
