Apple iOS Vulnerable To New Hacker Threat

The U.S. Government warned users of Apple Inc.’s AAPL iOS of a vulnerability that can affect users of iPhones and iPads, according to a Reuters report.

Reuters noted that the devices can be attacked by hackers who can then steal sensitive data, including login credentials, using a “newly identified technique known as the "Masque Attack.""

According to the report, “the network security company, FireEye Inc, disclosed the vulnerability behind the "Masque Attack" earlier this week, saying it had been exploited to launch a campaign dubbed "WireLurker" and that more attacks could follow.”

The government warnings came from an online bulletin from the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center and the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Teams.

According to the bulletin, iOS users can protect themselves from Masque Attacks by following three steps:

1. Don’t install apps from sources other than Apple’s official App Store or your own organization.
2. Don’t click “Install” from a third-party pop-up when viewing a web page.
3. When opening an app, if iOS shows an “Untrusted App Developer” alert, click on “Don’t Trust” and uninstall the app immediately.

Apple recently traded at $113.81, up 0.88 percent.
