Shares of American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL) are continuing to fly higher Monday, as lower oil prices provide a backdrop to the continued rally.

This comes after last week's nearly 5.5 percent increase in the stock of American Airlines, following news of an increased stake by David Tepper's Appaloosa Management.

Shares of American Airlines are trading at $40.48, matching the highs of late July, and are up 60 percent year to date.
