Wal-Mart Tabs Greg Foran To Head U.S. Operations

Wal-Mart Stores WMT named Greg Foran to head its U.S. operations, the company said Thursday.

Walmart U.S. accounted for nearly 60 percent of the company's fiscal 2014 sales.

Foran succeeds William M. Simon, who has been in the role since June 2010 and will be "transitioning out of the company," Wal-Mart said. Simon served as Wal-Mart's chief operating officer from 2007 to 2010.

Foran, 53, joined Wal-Mart in October 2011, and was named president and chief executive of Wal-Mart China in March 2012. He was promoted to president and CEO of Wal-Mart Asia earlier this year.

Prior to Wal-Mart, Foran held a number of roles with Woolworths.

In his new position as U.S. president and chief executive, Foran will report to Wal-Mart chief executive Doug McMillon effective August 9.

The company will announce Foran's successor as President and CEO of Walmart Asia at a later date.
