Share:

Albawaba Business on Sunday reported that the Qatar Public Works Authority 'Ashgal' chose International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM) to provide smart infrastructure for the company.

A Partnership to Aid Qatar's Infrastructure

The article states, "Ashghal and IBM will deploy an Enterprise Asset Management Solution (EAMS) to effectively manage the operation and maintenance of the country's roads and drainage networks and multiple effluent and water treatment plants.

"The solution will enable Ashghal to rapidly evaluate and respond to defects or incidents reported by citizens and anticipate and prevent problems. Enabled through the use of mobile devices, Ashghal will be able to quickly plan work requirements, determine resource availability and ensure the right crew responds with the right materials and tools."

A Vision For A Better Standard Of Living

This project follows the Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims for a better standard of living for its people.

The vision focuses on four pillars including economic, social, human and environmental development.

The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics wrote, "By 2030, Qatar aims to be an advanced society capable of sustaining its development and providing a high standard of living for all of its people. Qatar's National Vision defines the long-term outcomes for the country and provides a framework within which national strategies and implementation plans can be developed."

A Design Centered On The Customer

IBM opened its Qatar office in April 2012 as part of its expansion. The company set up the office to meet customer's growing needs in the region for innovation and progress.

Ashghal's president Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi spoke about the implementation of EAMS at the kick-off ceremony.

President Mawlawi said, "Designed with a focus on customer centricity, the solution will help Ashghal to advance its asset management services with the organisation's overall business goals through a system that will guarantee lower asset failure frequency and ensure timely maintenance. With this advanced software, Ashghal will gain real time visibility into the country's asset usage and, better govern and manage the lifecycle of road and drainage networks to achieve higher returns on national investment."
