, the leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced that the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Gear 2, Samsung Gear 2 Neo and Samsung Gear Fit feature Immersion's haptic technology, TouchSense® software. With a full range of tactile effects for various uses in each device, Samsung's integration of TouchSense in the Galaxy S5 and Gear devices offer a more personalized and intuitive experience for the consumer. “The relationship between consumers and their mobile phones and other personal devices is changing rapidly. We're becoming much more dependent on them to assist with how we live our lives, and touch and tactile feedback is a critical component to how we process and understand information,” said Dennis Sheehan, Immersion's senior vice president of sales and marketing. “We are working with our customers to continue to bring innovative new features to market, understanding that tactile effects are a powerful and discreet way to communicate information to users.” This integration expands Samsung's portfolio of advanced haptic-enabled devices, which previously included the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Gear, and Galaxy Note Series. “Samsung's use of advanced and basic haptics across their devices is testament to the relevance of this technology and its impact on users. We're pleased to see Samsung incorporating tactile technology in their latest lineup of Samsung Smartphone and Gear devices,” added Sheehan. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the first device on the market to include Immersion's new Tactile Assist™ application, a feature that makes the smartphone more usable and enjoyable for the hearing and visually impaired. Tactile Assist enhances sound and visual cues with touch and motion feedback in applications, such as mobile games, enabling users to feel the experience on their phone. Galaxy S5 users can access Tactile Assist by going to Options>Accessibility>Hearing>Auto Haptic. The Samsung Gear devices use an alternative version of TouchSense software designed to provide a range of tactile feedback specifically for personal notifications, message alerts and alarms on wearable devices. The software, developed for the operating system on these devices, enables these devices to communicate discreetly to users while on the move. Immersion's TouchSense software enables the precise control of the actuator in the device to create a range of touch and motion effects. TouchSense supports various operating systems on smartphones, tablets, wearables and other devices.
