DigiTimes reported that Google GOOG will likely cancel development and marketing subsidies due to the "booming" sales of Chromebooks.

According to Google's supply chain makers, Chromebook sales have exploded with "devices selling well in the inexpensive notebook segment in the US, and widely adopted for educational use through government procurement projects." The source noted that Google expects to sell four to five million Chromebook units in 2014.

DigiTimes reported that the cancellation of subsidies may discourage additional vendors from developing or offering Chromebooks.

Shares of Google closed at $1,204.11 on Friday.
