US Stock Futures Mostly Flat; Jobless Claims Data In Focus

US stock futures were mostly flat in early pre-market trade, ahead of jobless claims data. Data on weekly jobless claims, and import and export prices for August will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 6 points to 15,324.00, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index futures fell 1.25 points to 1,687.50. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index rose 1 point to 3,179.50.
A Peek Into Global Markets
European markets were mostly lower today, with the Spanish Ibex Index rising 0.09%, London's FTSE 100 index dropping 0.23% and STOXX Europe 600 Index declining 0.22%. German DAX 30 index fell 0.20% and French CAC 40 Index declined 0.33%. Euro-zone industrial production dropped 1.5% in July from June. Italy's industrial production fell 1.1% on the month in July. French consumer price index increased 0.5% in August versus the prior month. Asian markets ended mostly higher today. China's Shanghai Composite rose 0.64%, while Japan's Nikkei Stock Average fell 0.26%. Australia's ASX/S&P500 gained 0.15% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 0.07% and India's Sensex dropped 1.08%. Australia's unemployment rate increased to 5.8% in August, versus 5.7% in July. However, economists were projecting an unemployment rate of 5.8%.
