NOAA: 2013 Hurricane Season to be 'Extremely Active'

Much of the east coast was hoping to hear that the 2013 hurricane season would be tame but according to a report released by Colorado State University and sponsored by the National Hurricane Center, that isn’t likely to be the case.

The report calls for an “extremely active” season with 13 to 20 named storms with between seven and 11 becomes hurricanes. The average is 6 hurricanes with three considered to be major storms. (Winds over 111 m.p.h.)

The hurricane season begins on May 26 and ends November 30.

National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration also unveiled a new super computer that will run upgraded software that is expected to improve forecasting accuracy by 10 to 15 percent.

This comes as disappointing news for victims of Superstorm Sandy, a late season hurricane that caused an estimated $75 billion in damages making it the second most costly hurricane in history.
