US Stock Futures Slightly Higher Ahead Of Economic Data
US stock futures are slightly higher this morning, ahead of economic data. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 10 points to 13,117.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 1.70 points to 1,410.00. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 4.50 points to 2,787.25.
US stocks closed mixed on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 0.25% to 13,124.67, the S&P 500 index falling 0.05% to 1,410.44 and the Nasdaq 100 index gaining 0.11% to 3,073.19.
The Case-Shiller home price index for the month of June will be released at 9 a.m. ET. Data on August consumer-confidence will be released at 10 a.m. ET.
Perfect World Co (NASDAQ: PWRD) reported a 50% drop in its second-quarter profit and issued downbeat revenue forecast for the current quarter.
PVH (NYSE: PVH) reported a 31% rise in its second-quarter net income and lifted its profit forecast for the full year.
Brown Shoe Co (NYSE: BWS) is estimated to report its Q2 EPS at $0.03 on revenue of $606.31 million. Sanderson Farms (NASDAQ: SAFM) is estimated to report its Q3 earnings at $1.20 per share on revenue of $619.93 million.
Dycom Industries (NYSE: DY) is projected to post its Q4 earnings at $0.41 per share on revenue of $323.71 million. Movado Group (NYSE: MOV) is projected to report its Q2 EPS at $0.18 on revenue of $122.00 million.
European markets were lower today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index declined 0.48%, French CAC 40 index dropped 0.47%. London's FTSE 100 Index moved down 0.07% and German DAX 30 index fell 0.37%.
Asian markets ended mixed, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average dropping 0.57%, China's Shanghai Composite rising 0.85% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving up 0.32%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained 0.07% and India's Sensex fell 0.27%.
Nymex crude-oil futures gained $0.63 to trade at $96.10 a barrel, while gold futures fell $10.60 to $1,665 an ounce.
The dollar index (DXY) declined 0.28% to trade at 81.42, versus 81.696 in North American trade late Monday. The euro gained 0.46% versus the dollar to trade at $1.2556, versus $1.2500.
The US dollar fell 0.1% versus the Japanese yen to trade at ¥78.68, down from ¥78.78.
