An interesting (no -- hilarious) letter has been floating around the web today, claiming that an "Apple fanboy" sent Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) a letter in praise of the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Lumia 900.

"Hopefully this will get to you," the letter -- written to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer by an Apple fanboy who goes by the name of Scott G. -- begins. "Your team deserves credit for producing an excellent product in the newest version of Windows Phone. Yes, I am writing from my MacBook Pro. And I have been a fairly loyal Apple customer over the years. However, I recently bought a Nokia Lumia 900 and intend on keeping it. For full disclosure, I was sure to make sure it could be returned after a dismal experience with an Android phone."

Scott G. then goes on to detail the six reasons why he switched to the Lumia 900.

"My family owns five vehicles, including two Fords with Sync. The 4S didn't support all functions in any of them. My Nokia 900 was flawless out of the box. It was refreshing to have something that just worked. I cannot afford to have my primary means of communication be a science experiment."

Wow, what are the odds that a loyal "Apple fanboy" would be in a family that has two Ford (NYSE: F) cars, both of which just happen to have the Sync software developed by Microsoft. What a spectacular coincidence!

Actually, it's not. In fact, I found myself laughing the moment I heard about this letter. Eventually I began to wonder if The Onion could be secretly responsible for writing the lengthy piece. But it's not -- this is the real deal. In fact, is proudly displaying the letter today. And with good reason. As one of my colleagues said, it's as if the author went over a Windows Phone fact sheet to make sure that he covered every feature.

Microsoft wants the world to take this letter at face value. It doesn't want us to question the validity of the praise (which includes comments like, "my Nokia 900 was flawless out of the box," and "everything after set up has been painless").

But how can we not roll our eyes at this letter? How can we not see the irony in the timing of its publication, which comes only days after Siri confessed its love for the Lumia 900? Mind you, Siri is no longer in love with the Nokia-made smartphone. But Microsoft wants us to believe that this one random Apple fanboy has fallen for the device.

Even if this letter is 100% real, I can't help but laugh. It's just one person -- one! Not 70 million (roughly the number of people who have purchased an iPhone 4S).
