Benzinga is hearing chatter that Gatorade is going to use a new API for its upcoming G2 app for the iPad.
The API could come from Pay Anywhere, a source familiar with the matter told Benzinga this week. The source said that Pay Anywhere is planning to release a basic and advanced version of its software development kit (
SDK) for iOS in the coming days.
Pay Anywhere's API may also crop up in a future app from KeHE Distributors, LLC, the source said, adding that KeHE has been working with Pay Anywhere for more than four weeks in beta.
Gatorade produces the world's most popular sports drinks, including the standard G Series (which offers drinks for before, during, and after a workout), G Series Fit, G Series Pro, and G Natural. The company is well known for its celebrity endorsements, which currently include Derek Jeter, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Dwyane Wade, Usain Bolt, and Serena Williams. The beverage company offers several programs designed to encourage sports participation and healthy lifestyles, including the

Pay Anywhere is a mobile payment solution that pairs a free card reader with low-cost transaction fees. The service comes from North American Bancard and is available for Apple AAPL iOS and Google GOOG Android, allowing users of both the iPhone and the iPad – as well as Android phones – to take advantage of the service and accept payments from any location. One of Pay Anywhere's differentiating features is that it does not store credit card data on the phone, the app, or the terminal.
KeHE Distributors is a wholesale supplier of ethnic and gourmet foods and serves more than 33,000 retailers across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The company distributes more than 60,000 items from 3,000 vendors, including beverages from the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group DPS.
