The Way Forward According to Alpert, Hockett, Roubini

Dear Readers, I am delighted to report that a white paper that Dan Alpert, Nouriel Roubini and I have been hard at work on over the past several weeks is now available at the New America Foundation website, and is already generating a good bit of attention. I'll link directly to the paper and to some of the media coverage thus far just below. Please allow me to make three quick observations before doing so. The first is that those (presumably few!) of you who have read some of my previous columns here will recognize quickly, I think, how immediately the diagnosis and solutions that Dan, Nouriel and I offer in the paper link up with much of what I've been on about over the past while here at Benzinga. Please consider this, then, the much fuller, 'longer playing version' of what I've attempted to convey in some previous columns concerning where we are now, how we appear to have gotten here, and what we must now do to extricate ourselves from a most serious predicament where the financial and 'real,' the national and the global economies are concerned. The second observation is that working with Dan and Nouriel on this truly has been, and continues to be, one of the most exhilarating adventures of what already seems a long and adventure-filled life - much more so than I've earned or deserve. I could not be more honored to be colleagues with these serious yet delightful fellow responders to what has long since proved itself to be one of the most formidable economic crises in our nation's - and I think now the world's - history. Thank you, gentlemen. And now: Forward! Finally, the third observation is that the three of us would never have been able to manage this thing so quickly had it not been for the remarkable encouragement and support - at least as much intellectual as logistical - of Sherle Schwenninger and Sam Sherraden at New America. Thank you, too, gentleman. And again: Forward! Now, to those (doubtless few!) of you who read these columns, if you would, please, please, please ... in the words of the immortal James Brown ... read the paper and tell us -- and your elected officials -- what you think. Thanks to you too!
