Flight 586 was evacuated today after a fire scare at Dulles airport.
Jodi Gersh, the Director of Social Media at Gannett
GCI, was on the plane when it happened.
“My plane just had an emergency evacuation- down the slides,”
she wrote on Twitter. “I am shaking. I don't yet know why. People were screaming.”
Gersh said that her plane, which was supposed to head to San Francisco International Airport, never took off. “As we start[ed] moving someone saw smoke,” she tweeted.
“My hands are a little cut up - when I went down the slide, guy behind me came too soon and I fell forward on the ground. A few injuries.”
Gersh continued to update her followers with additional tweets:
“No serious injuries as far as I can tell. It happened so fast and the attendants were amazing. I'm still shaking as I type this...”
“The urgency in the attendants yells mobilized everyone quickly. Some pushing. I'm hearing now there was possibly fuel leaking.”
“Hearing of possible broken bones, from the slide landing, but no other serious injuries. They've sent us to the admiral lounge to regroup.”
“Apparently Justice Ginsberg was on the plane. I saw secret service at the gate before boarding, but didn't know why til now.”
“To be clear, I didn't see Ginsberg, but did see secret service and hearing reports here that is was her. #unconfirmed”
“The departure screens have been updated to say our flight will take off at 3:30, but no one has told us that, so not sure.”
Gersh also tweeted
this pic from her evacuation.
