There's no hiding that doing the "Dougie" has become the latest dance expression, whether it be in sports, at a nightclub, or just in front of a camera to put on YouTube like Glen "Big Baby" Davis of the Boston Celtics. According to a recent Wall Street Journal
report.
"The four 20-year old artists of the group Call Swag District released a music video in which they 'Dougie' in the streets of Inglewood, California, which is their hometown. The dance is modeled after the D-Town Boogie, a Dallas-based jive that took off in 2008. the Dougie is an homage to Doug E. Fresh, the rapper who made a habit in the 1980s and 1990s of flailing his limbs while running his hands over his head. "That's him being fresh," said Cali Swag District's Chanti Glee, who goes by Yung. The Dougie has caught on like wildfire as it has been seen as a touchdown celebration by Braylon Edwards of the New York Jets, a pre-game warm up routine for college basketball teams, and even by a Texas A&M University computer science professor at a pep rally. While there are many modified versions of the "Dougie", it generally consists of shimmying and then gliding one's hand through one's hair. Cali Swag District recently surprised a crowd at the Wizards' home arena in Washington by showing up at a recent Saturday night game to teach everyone how to Dougie during a timeout. Their pupils included some Wizards players, who peeked up from the huddle to catch glimpses of the maestros. Click
