Brian Singerman, a general partner at Founders Fund, was ranked fifth on the Forbes annual Midas List, which is a ranking of the top venture capitalists. Among some of the fund's holdings include Facebook Inc FB and privately held Spotify, Lyft, Airbnb, SpaceX and Palantir.

Speaking as a guest on CNBC's "Squawk Alley" segment, Singerman offered his thoughts on Facebook's management team. First, he recalled his early-stage investment in Facebook, noting that a main consideration was the "fantastic" leadership team.

Singerman went on to talk about the time he worked at Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL as an employee and found Larry Page to be one of the best CEOs ever because of his ability to think "very, very, very, long term" and create an appropriate long-term strategy to "get where he wants to go."

What About Musk?

Singerman is also very familiar with Elon Musk's leadership style as his fund owns a stake in Musk's SpaceX company.

Musk also serves as the CEO of Tesla Inc TSLA and running the two companies makes Musk "very much a visionary" and also "someone who gets it done."

"The combination of vision plus the ability to execute is always what we are looking for in a 'founder,'" he said. "Those are in my mind the top two traits of a fantastic founding CEO."
