Gary Cohn, the director of the National Economic Council, said Friday the latest jobs report was a "perfect number" and "exactly where it needed to be."

Speaking to CNBC after the release of February's jobs data, he said the jobs number also serves as a sign that the Trump administration's pledge to create new jobs and bring jobs back home is working.

"This number reaffirms everything that we're trying to do," Cohn emphasized. "We're very excited about what's ahead of us."

What Exactly Is Ahead?

Cohn emphasized the fact that President Trump has met with CEOs and industry leaders, which resulted in many executives promising to create many new jobs. In fact, those new hiring plans haven't been done yet, which implies there's a "huge backlog of hirings" to look forward to.

Cohn was asked by CNBC's David Faber if the Trump administration is taking credit for many of the job pledges from CEOs, which were being drawn up prior to the presidential election.

Cohn answered that he has personally been involved in many of the meetings with CEOs and industry leaders. He emphasized the fact that many executives walked into the meeting and said without Trump being in the White House and without his pro jobs policies, they wouldn't be creating these new jobs at home.
