Apple Inc. AAPL last year announced HomeKit, a system that will allow users to control lighting, heat and devices at their homes. The company recently announced that it will be launching HomeKit devices in June.

Abigail Elise, International Business Times tech reporter, was on CNBC Friday to weigh in on this.

It’s Going To Be Big, But Not Now

“I believe with any new type of disruptive technology -- something in your home that’s controlling your lighting, the temperature, it could water your plants, when you feed your pets -- it probably is going to take a while for people to adjust to this new idea of something that is controlling virtually everything that’s taking place in your house,” Elise said. “I think smarthome technology is going to be big, I'm just not sure if it’s going to be very, very soon.”

People Are Not Ready Yet

Elise was asked why we aren’t hearing much about the HomeKit like we do for other product that Apple launches. She replied, “Again, I think because it’s a new technology people aren’t necessarily running to Apple Store to check out the HomeKit. This is something that people are going to have to put into their houses.”

“So, maybe it’s not considered as trendy as something that you are going to wear on your wrist. The iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6 Plus, something that you are kind of out there using every day. It just seems like people aren’t really ready yet for this new type of home technology,” Elise said.
