Much of the talk regarding Yahoo! Inc. YHOO recently has been about the stake it owns in Alibaba. However, there was a time when the company used to be the poster-boy of Internet and everything digital. The company has changed its strategy often, but now it seems focused on what it does best.

Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Media at Yahoo, Kathy Savitt, was recently on Bloomberg to discuss how the company is re-inventing itself and leveraging its media properties to do so.

"Yahoo from its very beginning has always been steeped in technology," Savitt said. "We just believe in using our technological innovations on the things that people consume and enjoy every day. Some of that's media, some of that's e-mail and communications and some of that has been about the ever-ending quest of curiosity that is about discovery and search."

When asked about whether Yahoo is a technology and a media company, Savitt replied, "Yahoo is an innovation company, it’s a customer-focused company that uses technology to innovate in media, to innovate in communications and in discovery."

"I think one of things that you have to do is to really figure out what your customers want, what they need and to focus on something where you feel you can deliver uniquely and that’s what I think Yahoo has done since its inception. It's focusing on those digital daily routines and actually innovating on them and making them delightful."

Shares of Yahoo closed Monday at $51.83, up 1.55 percent.
